Until recently, only my family and friends had glimpsed the non-traditional expression of my passion for the Eagles. That changed the night of the NFC Championship Game. I was so amped up with excitement that I started running alongside a departing Septa train to extend a final “Go Birds!” to the Eagles fans riding inside it, and in the process, I got tackled by a subway pillar. But I bounced back up, hopped onto the next train to the game, shared my energy with the fans there, and cheered on my Eagles to a win. Yes, I’m that SuperFan! And pillarpassion.com is dedicated to capturing the good, bad and ugly that came after videos of the subway pillar's tackle on me went viral. Glad to be around to join in on the laughs!
Football was absent from my early childhood. My family didn't chant the Eagles fight song, sport kelly green Eagles branded apparel, or plan our Sunday schedules around Eagles game times. Only in my preadolescent years did I even start watching the game, on my own. My instant fascination with Randall Cunningham evolved into a passion for the Eagles and the great city of Philadelphia.
After 20 years of representing Eagles Nation from non-Philadelphia locales, I was thrilled to move to the Philly suburbs in 2016 and keep rooting for the Birds from the nest. In addition to the city's rich sports heritage, the City of Brotherly Love is also known for its arts, culture and colonial history. And Philly's diverse restaurant scene offers something for everyone -- from cheesesteaks to fine dining!
Football has a strong presence in my family life. Like me, my sons are fans of all things Philadelphia, especially the Eagles. We sing the Eagles fight song loudly and proudly (albeit out of tune). Sundays are planned around Eagles games, to the extent possible – DVR helps. We sport Eagles branded apparel. Midnight Green is plastered on my boys’ bedroom wall. And did I mention Zach and Carson, my sons’ pet bearded dragons?
